James G. Lucier is a graduate of Northeastern University, where he obtained a B.S. in Criminal Justice with honors. Following college, he spent three years as the Assistant Construction Manager for the Westborough Townhouse Improvement Project, one of the largest residential rehabilitation projects of its kind in Northern California. While on this project Jim gained hands-on experience working with contractors from all of the major trades, providing structural and architectural upgrades for over 850 townhouses. Thereafter, Jim graduated from the Golden Gate University School of Law, where he obtained a Dean’s merit scholarship for high academic achievement by finishing in the top tier of his class. Jim attended classes at night, raised a family, and worked full time during law school, conducting site investigations for a law firm specializing in construction defect litigation. By the time he was admitted to practice law in 1992, Jim had approximately seven years of experience in the construction industry behind him.
Following law school, Jim was admitted to practice law before the California Supreme Court, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. During his career as a civil litigation attorney, Jim has gained a high level of construction litigation experience representing developers, general contractors, and subcontractors in construction defect litigation and contract disputes involving commercial property, condominiums, rental dwellings, and single family homes. His experience also includes nearly a decade in surety bond defense, representing major surety companies throughout the country and he was honored as one of several attorneys to assist in drafting pro-surety legislation that was eventually adopted by the California State Legislature. In addition to his experience in construction litigation and surety bond defense, Jim has successfully defended major property damage claims, including complex, multi-party landslide disputes, surface water disputes, and lateral support failures. Jim is presently a partner with the firm, and manages his own construction litigation team.
