L. Theodore (Ted) Scheley, III

Ted Scheley joined Clapp, Moroney in 1991 directly out of law school, was made partner in April of 1999 and is the Managing Partner of the firm. Ted is an experienced and respected litigator and is a member of Clapp, Moroney’s Construction and Personal Injury Law Groups. Ted is an admittee to the American Board of Trial Advocates, (ABOTA). He has recently been elected to sit on the Board of Directors of the Association of Defense Counsel for 2012.

Ted’s personal injury practice emphasizes the aggressive and cost-efficient defense of individual and corporate defendants in both simple and complex personal injury actions arising out of construction site accidents, premises liability matters and vehicular accidents. Ted is an experienced trial attorney, having successfully defended clients in personal injury cases before arbitrators, judges and juries in numerous venues throughout Northern California with a score of published jury verdicts to his credit. He has been lead counsel in hundreds of arbitrations and mediations and is very familiar with and respected by the most widely utilized public and private arbitrators and mediators in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area and South Bay Area. As a San Mateo Bar Association member, Ted has been sitting as an Arbitrator for the court the past 10 years.

Ted’s Construction Law practice emphasizes a common sense approach to often times complex construction defect claims. Representing many well known general and subcontractors, Ted has successfully defended hundreds of construction defect claims and is familiar with and respected by all commonly retained Special Masters in Northern California.

Ted is also a frequent speaker on topics ranging from the defense of complex personal injury actions, cost-efficient resolution of earth movement claims and contractual indemnity in construction actions to general civil litigation techniques.

Ted received his B.A. in liberal studies with an emphasis in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1986 and his J.D. degree in 1990 from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento. Ted is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth District and U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of California. In addition, Ted is a member of Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and the Defense Research Institute.
